In order to convert a Google Video file into a file readable by Windows Media Player:
  1. Go to this URL, download the software, and use it with the *.gvp file of your choice. Not the *.gvi file. The software will convert the *.gvp file into a readable *.avi file. Note: The *.avi file you can get from opening the *.gvp file in Notepad and going to the link provided there and downloading the original file will not work.
  2. If your Window Media Player still cannot read the file, the chances are that your computer doesn't have the DivX codec. As this page from Google Video Help says, you can download the DivX player here. In reality, all you need is the codec to read the file.
